Mrs May attended the skills fair at the NEC on Thursday 15th November. It was a very lively event with representatives from many of the local further education providers. The most distinctive feature of the convention was their ‘hands on’ approach to vocational careers. This meant that senior school students were often invited to try out jobs to see what it would really be like to do that kind of work. The most fascinating stand was set up to discover clues in a murder mystery which involved students acting as Forensic Scientists working at the scene of the murder. Careers in creative arts and digital media were particularly well represented but the sheer scale and variety of possible career choices was breath taking. A worthwhile way of spending a day, next year’s convention is already in the planning stages. Why not make a note in your diary now?
